We recently hosted our Rise to the Occasion for Back-to-School Contest and asked fans to tell us about past or present educators they know who go above and beyond in the classroom. We loved reading all of your inspirational and heartwarming stories about outstanding teachers, and we’re thrilled to announce our winners!
We’d like to give a big congratulations to our Grand Prize Winner, Diana Zapote! Diana told us about Dr. Peralta, a college professor who went above and beyond to help Diana throughout her college career, especially when she struggled with a personal crisis during her sophomore year and missed a critical exam. Diana met with Dr. Peralta regarding the exam, and instead of receiving a lecture about her dedication to the class or her performance, she received an unexpected listening ear and shoulder to cry on. To Diana, Dr. Peralta is not only a respected professor, but a much-loved father figure who deeply cares for each and every student, both inside and outside the classroom.
We would also like to congratulate our Runner-Up, Sierra Hawksley, who told us about her outgoing teacher, Heidi Morris. Sierra says Ms. Morris is known to help students one-on-one with many activities outside of class, like teaching how to vote, coordinating world travel, and exploring volunteer opportunities in the community. She has even been known to tweet homework assignments and text students if they don’t show up for class!
To kick off the back-to-school season, Diana will receive a $200 shopping spree, case of Rise Bars and lots of Rise Bar schwag, including a t-shirt, sunglasses and more. Sierra will receive a $100 shopping spree, Rise Bars and schwag to help start the season off right. Congrats Diana and Sierra!
